When we were moving from Phoenix to SF a few years ago, I had to place Shelley in her carrier. I didn’t realize until we were on the road that beads of blood were seeping through my shirt.
I was around for a week with what looked like two piercigs on my nose, but it was actually were my kitten smacked me when I didn't realized she was mad and I came to close u_u
My little girl Kali is a shoulder-cat. I often have clawmarks on my shoulders from where's jumped on or off, and I never notice until later when they've already scabbed over. XD
When I got Roxii, we would play and she would get a little rough. I never really noticed how bad it was until one day at work (I am a bank teller) when I was counting back some cash, the customer says, "Someone has a cat.". I looked at my hands and realized how terrible it must look to other people. Oh well :)
I have a special needs cat who became a biter after her "rescuers" declawed her. Se only really bites me anymore. I was at a shop and the clerk commented I must have a cat and I looked at my arms which were absolutely covered from elbow to fingers in bandages, scars and scabs. >.<
My favorite is the "love bites". Purring and really enjoying being pet, then randomly chomping your hand. So of course I don't get mad, but switch to playing pounce games with the blanket and my hand. I'm never without a chomp or a scratch, but it's a daily reminder of a certain fuzzy moron I love :)
Cats respond to over stimulation by biting at times & this unfortunately includes when we sometimes rub them. It's an instinct, so they really do not mean to hurt us then. My biggest scar is from a failed attempt to clip my first cat's nails. It's about 4 inches long on my arm. But it is impossible for me to remember where or how some of them happen now.
Something similar happened to me at Chicago's airport, I had to take my cat off the carrier for inspection and when I was putting her back inside someone pushed some bags near to us and she jumped to my neck. I calmly put her in her carrier when I noticed all the TSA agents looking at me with a weird face, I asked my husband what was going on and he told me I had a scratch all along my neck with a lot of bright blood. They offered me some alcohol and told me that I should transport a feral cat (she is the sweetest, she was just scared). Surprisingly, it didn't even hurt...
I was at home sick one day and I was dangling a mouse toy in front of my kitty right in front of my face( so it was more my fault then hers lol) and she got me right on the nose with a claw and I have a scar to prove it lol!
I still have the scars on my hands from my Isabel... She is a biter... The worst is when she was a kitten, I would be eating pringles and she would climb up my back, onto my shoulder, and after the painful climb up, she would take my chip as I tried putting it in my mouth... Then instead of jumping down, she preferred to slide down... Isabel is very temperamental, so she slaps people too and it hurts sometimes. I <3 my kitty
When my Loki was just about the size of my hand, he decided to take a leap out of my loft bed (his secret cat-power is teleportation) into my arms. On the way down he sliced both of my wrists across, didn't even notice until the next day at work when the concerned comments started...
Have also been identified by multiple people at various groups as a cat chica from the kitty scars on arms and hands....they're badges of honor!
My little Vincent Valentine (RIP) sent me to the emergency room because I had to give him a bath (he got motor oil on him because he was "helping" me do an oil change on the van. He was very very upset, so I told him that "if it would help you cope, you can bite me". He did. Twice. Almost hit an artery, that's how bad it was. I didn't really feel it, to be honest. Didn't realize how bad he got me until I noticed my mother in law turning white and the bathroom floor turning red.
We have an extremely playful 3-month-old kitten named Bubbles. She is a climber too and loves to attack our legs. We're teaching her not to do that, but is a looooong process. I have my legs full of scratches and it's summer time. I swear I notice every time she makes a new one, but I love her anyway because (cat lady voice mode on) she is my lovely kitty.
My cat, Genghis (no points for guessing how he got that name), used to be a biter and a scratcher when he was a kitten. At the same time he loved to explore every shelf or drawer into which he could get and then refused to get out. After some time I devised a method - I'd put my hand inside and wait for him to attack. Then I'd just pull it out with him wrapped around like a glove.
I still have scars from the 4 stitches in my bottom lip, 2 in my top lip, and a total of 7 stiches on my forehead along with the numerous scratches on my cheeks and scalp from when Clovis got scared of our dog chasing her... She jumped up onto the counter and clawed her way up my face to the top of my head to get away from him... Bubby thought they were playing, she thought she was running for her life, and our other two kitties stared on in horror. When we returned from the ER, I realized my kitchen looked like a murder scene with all the blood everywhere. Yes, we still have Clovis.
I'm covered in scars from numerous cat encounters, i look like i'm a self harmer! (i'm really not!) still it's all part of the fun. People look on in horror at your wounds, scabs, bandages and more often than not still bleeding wounds. And think you are mental but you tend to be oblivious to it all.
Very true! My cat decided to use my chest as a springboard last night, and I didn't even realized he'd scratched me until I looked in a mirror. Oops. No low-cut tops for me for a while. :\
I always know when it is nail trimming time for our cats. I'll go to get in bed and notice that my poor thighs are covered in puncture wounds and are all red. Then I know...no shorts and time to trim nails. Haha you're so right as always!
Dogs (and any other species of pet) that continuously do these things to their owners are put down, no questions asked, it's the proper thing to do. Sane people don't tolerate an animal for a pet that doesn't and can't respect them back. You think your cat loves you? They are marking their food source territory when they rub up against you. They have no more compassion for humans than a reptile does for its keeper. If the neighbor would feed your cat better than you do that's the last you'd see of your "loving" cat.
Doesn't matter what any of you say. I shoot and bury every last one of these invasive-species vermin if they are spotted on my land. Every last one of them. You either learn to keep them under supervised containment, or you lose them. Simple as that. Let them roam free -- they are shot on sight, collared or not. It was the only way I could train useless wastes of flesh like you.
Wow. You fill society with hate, occupy the Earth with your close minded idiocies, destroy innocent life AND still have lots of time to troll the net. Winner.
My cat sleeps with me every night, and she sleeps on my stomach. Kneading dough is bad enough, but now she learned to 'boop' my nose...with claws out. I always have little scratches on my nose and my cheek...and yet I let her keep sleeping with me because she leans up and kisses the scratches all better :)
I know this so well. Both my cats have enjoyed playing "Biting Cat" with me, grabbing my hand, wrapping their arms around it, and disembowelling me with their hind feet. Once when I picked my previous cat up on his back and tried to kiss his tummy he took my nose in his teeth - but fortunately he didn't bite down. It was just a warning shot.
I think ergo baby should be neutered... just sayin', or they'll probably spawn little spam-ettes.
Love your post and all the comments. My current baby is sooooo sweet. The only time he's gotten me was when someone turned on the vacuum without warning.... OUCH!!!! He literally bounced off the walls and on to me. If you watch Falling Skies it reminds me of the alien things that attach to the back of the childrens necks! hahahaha *alien-robot voice* Take me to your leader.....and the foodbowl!!!
I am not allowed to travel with my baby outside of his cage but I am sure that he would be so much happier scratching my arms rather than his wee carrier...
P.S. I so identify with this site. It makes me feel sane. In an insane sort of way.
When my baby girl was still kitten-ish, I took her to her 2nd visit to the Vet, when I arrived I had a good 8-10in of deep claw marks up my arms seeping through my shirt ( (mind she's very sweet and calm but doesn't like to be confined). My Vet told me that I could trim just the razor sharp tip of their claws and my babies would be none the wiser. It's been a couple of years now, and it's saved me a lot of pain. Whenever I feel the little needle-like prick of claws I just clip them. They are very docile when it comes to grooming. Now feeding them meds is still a bloody battle with many scars and sometimes tears (from me)

I, too, am pretty used to the pain little Garfield (Gargar) inflicts on me. The other four cats are much kinder. My shoulder always has little holes from my climbing cat.
Lol! so funny and cute. What my bf and i love about Tommy is that he never uses his claws on us unless he is scared of something or is badly startled. Even when he plays he never uses his claws.
I grew up with cats and can't remember when I didn't have scratches or bites! Now I work at my local shelter with the cats and I found out that I scar very easily so I have a bunch of scars running up and down my arms. The one scar that has sentimental value is one on my right fore arm where my Koda freaked out when someone he didn't know came in the house to fix something and I was holding him. It's about two inches lone but I'm glad I have something other than his ashes to remember him by(yes Koda is my angel kitty). The cat I have right now Missie I'll be playing around with her rubbing her belly and she will kick box me the go to bite me but start to kiss me but when my friends try to rub her belly and she does this they all yell and pull away and I'll just say it doesn't hurt because it doesn't to me but I guess it does to them!
Every night my calico beauty Oreo would sleep with me. Before doing so the moment she would realize I was in bed and not getting up she would sink those sharp beautiful claws into my neck to knead on me lol I just let her :) she feels safe and so I allow it. I get defensive when someone talks about my baby. And even when she got spayed and had to stay overnight I called to check up on her. Gosh she is my life only eats canned food and has lots of yummy treats and so many toys I even gave her her own blanket used to be mine and I felt getting her a cage when we needed to go somewhere seemed scary so I bought her a nice suitcase looking cage so no bars and its soft and she can see through it still. I would take her out to city hall when my husband would train parkour she loved it but stayed by my side. :) I even let her in the bathroom with me and don't care if she scrathes me I love her more than anyone or anything I am a crazy cat lady especially to my baby and no one can change that. When ever I find out someone I know has a cat I tell them to call me if they ever in the future don't want their cat so I can make sure to find him or her a good loving forever home instead of being at a shelter especially one that isn't nice :/
This is true. I had to bring my cat to the vet and things didn't go smoothly. I have the arm scratches to prove it.
ReplyDeleteI was around for a week with what looked like two piercigs on my nose, but it was actually were my kitten smacked me when I didn't realized she was mad and I came to close u_u
ReplyDeleteTrue!
ReplyDeletehow I hate when they do that. It really hurts.
ReplyDeleteYup!
ReplyDeleteI have a scar on my left bicep from a scratch one of my kitties gave me a month and a half ago. Can't forget to snip those razor-sharp claws...
ReplyDeleteMy little girl Kali is a shoulder-cat. I often have clawmarks on my shoulders from where's jumped on or off, and I never notice until later when they've already scabbed over. XD
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what my Penelope does! I always have little scabs on my shoulders from where she grabs hold.
DeleteWhen I got Roxii, we would play and she would get a little rough. ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious! It's so easy to spot a "cat person".
DeleteI have a special needs cat who became a biter after her "rescuers" declawed her. Se only really bites me anymore. I was at a shop and the clerk commented I must have a cat and I looked at my arms which were absolutely covered from elbow to fingers in bandages, scars and scabs. >.<
DeleteSounds about right. I regularly find scratches that I don't remember getting. Even when its 4 inches long and obviously bled some.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the "love bites". Purring and really enjoying being pet, then randomly chomping your hand. So of course I don't get mad, but switch to playing pounce games with the blanket and my hand. I'm never without a chomp or a scratch, but it's a daily reminder of a certain fuzzy moron I love :)
ReplyDeleteI can relate, my chubby will rub his head on my head, then bite my head!

DeleteI love your comics, I should of found them a long time ago. :)
ReplyDeleteYou should do one about trying to spray them with flea & tick treatment. I have the battle wounds to show for doing ours this evening...x.x
ReplyDeleteYes, I know all too well about the flea spray.....not a good idea on someones parts and make matters worse, we went with it. Lol!!
DeleteThe worst was when my cat misjudged his landing on our headboard and landed on my face. Instant cat lady identification!
ReplyDeleteScars on my left hand... My cat was a bit nervous while I was petting him. It's been 10 years now, I think, and the scars will never go away
ReplyDeleteSomething similar happened to me at Chicago's airport, I had to take my cat off the carrier for inspection and when I was putting her back inside someone pushed some bags near to us and she jumped to my neck. ReplyDeleteSo true!<3
ReplyDeleteOur current cat is the first 'climber' we've had - previous cats jumped onto your head/shoulder/lap, and Sherpa just slowly climbs her way up... ow.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you shouldn't have named her after mountain climbers, then.
DeleteWe have an extremely playful 3-month-old kitten named Bubbles. She is a climber too and loves to attack our legs. We're teaching her not to do that, but is a looooong process.
