My cat only has one strategy to this very same situation (i.e. me coming back with grocery): mad dash. he just runs straight. It makes it rather easy to catch him.
Oliver tries to hide behind the couch or whatever object is nearby. We had to put a collar with a bell on him. He still tries, but you can hear him jingling from anywhere in the house.
One of my cats LOVES to "escape"... we live in an apartment building, and he will make a dash for the door when I open it, only to sit on my neighbors door mat with an air of total self-satisfaction. Cheeky cat.
I have a big fenced in yard so my cats can go in and out...thus the in out game. One wants in and one wants out and then he wants in again ..no out again. Im standing opening and closing the door like an idiot for ten minutes.

Two of my cats sleep on top of me, just like yours.
I live in an apartment, and when of them once went outside my frontdoor into the shared hallway, without me noticing it. After 10 seconds he started pawing the door, wanting to come back in again.
I locked myself out of the house, opened the window to get in and didn't shut the window again. I was in the shower when I realized it. 4.5 of my 6 cats escaped before I realized it!!! I go outside and they're huddled around the door...
This is going to be my new worry soon...my cat already runs out the door when we get home from work, or come back with laundry. Soon we're going to have a real house with real outdoors that I don't want her to escape into...lol
One of my cats runs and hides as soon as he hears someone at the door, or coming up the walk, so I never worry about him. the other one is VERY curious and HAS to see who is at the door, but doesn't really try and get out. Just nosy!
I love it! I really think I have one kitty, Newbie, that plans 24/7 how he will escape. When I adopted him from a shelter, they said he was the only cat to ever escape his cage while they were gone for the night and he was sitting by the door when they opened it in the morning. He's a planner! Can't wait to read more of your cartoons in the cat's point of view, it's awesome.
Our kitties are country cats. In winter, they stay in but in the summer, they stay out. They try the opposite in the summer, to sneak in. They hang out sometimes by the door looking pitiful and meowing. They claim they're starving. I tell them if you're really starving, go catch a mouse. They frown. LOL
This is my last litter of five kittens playing together, it is one of the best videos I've seen of kittens, IMHO : ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNe_0hpNHM8
And this is my stud and one of my queens having some "quality time" together ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqcINfiX_sM
On this other, Luana does the "Love Dance" to Tigre ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqcINfiX_sM
Oh, this happens to me everyday. I'm on the couch watching television covered by cats, but there is one on the floor meowing. I thought she was just protesting because there was not space for her on the sofa. Now I know.
Hmmm...Lunchbox likes to make a mad dash out the door...until he realizes it's REALLY BIG outside, at which point he freaks out and lays down on the porch.
We live on the 3rd floor of an apartment complex but my cat still tries to escape once in a while. There's two directions she can go and two feet out the door she stops and has no idea which way to go hahahaha
I swear my cat is the same. He tries to go behind my back when I get ready to go to school....
ReplyDeleteThose sneaks! I Knew it! :)

ReplyDeleteAs soon as I crack open the door, they will make a mad dash. But they won't really go anywhere--just on their usual patch of grass.

ReplyDeleteI had to do that with Shine, otherwise, we would never find her anywhere. lol
DeleteGiven a choice, cats will always choose sleep!

ReplyDeleteMine also does this but she goes out into the stairwell, looks frightened and then wants to come back inside!
DeleteLove the cat POV. My cat makes a mad dash for the door to my apartment but does a quick 180 when he hears the dog down the hall bark.

ReplyDeleteCute! c=
ReplyDeleteA refreshing variation of comic!
ReplyDeleteIndeed I suspect this goes through the minds of all house-bound Felis catus.
I was letting kitty "escape" because he only wanted the grass right outside the door, but he kept getting fleas so I got him cat grass instead.
