One day, I came home to find blood stains on my laptop keyboard, the floor, the desk and other parts of the house. This lead me to find Shelley in corner, by the litter box, batting a small mouse.
my cats would catch a small mouse but wouldn't know how to kill it, I often ended up chasing the poor thing around the house, and it ain't funny when it happened at 3 am...
My cat brought a mole home yesterday. We couldn't take it from her, because she was to fast taking it to the backyard. Then, during dinner, she was playing with it like the orka with the seal, throwing it into the air and stuff.
Somehow they manage to do it always during dinner...
My one cat would catch mice and leave them in the bath tub to play with later. one day I walked into the bathroom to see her sleeping in the tub with three mice jumping up the sides trying to get out
Our kitties haven't brought mice or other rodents home yet, thank god! But they have found snakes!! My old kitty Sky (may he rest in peace) brought them into the house a couple of times! Our two new kitties haven't brought them in the house (yet!) but have found them in the yard a few times!
Thankfully they're harmless garter snakes! And interestingly enough the snakes have never shown any outward signs of injury, even after being tossed around the yard by a couple rambunctions adolescent kittens! Though they did seem rather stunned.... lol
my first kitty ever, Oreo, used to catch rodents of all sizes, and line them up perfectly in rows by size in front of the door. always reminded me of one of those verizon commericals with the signal bars haha.
I don't let my cat out but she'll stare out at the window at all the birdies and do this clicking, biting thing with her jaw. I think its their kill bite. Its a bit weird but I actually find it a little cute. lol :)
My cat catches mice and doesn't kill them she plays with them. She likes to play with them I bath tub. One day I pulled back the shower curtain to find Marble just sitting there watching it run around! She looked at me like I caught it now it's your turn. I'm thinking if I have to kill it what do I need you for?

WTF Cheeky, I LOVE that behavior! I call it "chittering" and they do it in imitation of birds. Mine love to watch them from inside, and call to them like that.
When we lived in the desert, I found a small mouse (expired: no blood) on the living room floor once. No one claimed it. Here, the mice all seem to stay outside. ;)
My cat is a great hunter. He brings home snakes and birds, and small rabbits, and mice, and voles, and just about anything that is roughly his size or smaller. Sometimes they are dead, sometimes they are not. Live baby rattlesnake is the one that scared me most.
Cheeky and Jmuhj: That chittering isn't a kill bite, or an attempt to imitate the birds. It's just something cats do when they're intensely excited about something. At least that's what I've read and heard from vets and stuff. :d
Have you ever been so excited about something your teeth chatter? I have (though I was a little bit cold at the time too) and I think it's a similar thing. heheh
I have had that happened to me except it was in my medicine pouch on my satchel. Scared the crap out of me. All my friends claimed that my cats were trying to pack a lunch for me. xD
I don't let my cats out but once a humming bird found it's way inside my apartment - when I opened the door, there where feathers everywhere!! I thought the cats had eaten the whole thing but the feathers (I have three cats), but later, to my surprise, I spotted the poor bird, it was breathing so heavily I could see the poor thing's chest moving - so I shooed it out to the balcony and closed the doors so the cats couldn't try to catch it anymore. Love your blog!!!!
I'm glad my girls are very good hunters, one of them once caught a mouse, but I rescued it and let it go! I only get dead stuffed giraffes dropped on my pillow in the middle of the night.
Its not good (but funny) when your normally terrified on his own shadow Siamese brings a seagull into the house. The look of pride on his face as it was flying and screaming around my dining room was a bad experience. I left the man (!) of the house to deal with it as i shut the door and walked away!.
In the last week,my cats have brought in 3 moles, and 3 frogs.Luckily I could save all the frogs, but one of the moles died.I hate any type of rodent, but I still don't want my cats killing them.Granted,I don't think my Ponchos meant to kill it,more likely it died of shock.
Thankfully I've never experienced that with my kitties. Our kitten Athena will chase and swat bugs but she hasn't quite figured out the killing part, so I'm often putting maimed, wingless flies out of their misery.
Apparently cats will bring you their kill because they think you're a shitty hunter and need to be fed and trained by them.
My kitty likes to bring in birds with broken necks. It's heartbreaking to see him batting the poor thing around while its' head wobbles. But at least he breaks their necks before playing.
My smallest cat has something of a delicate stomach... and a tendency to eat all her food and all her sister's and all the food for the cats next door in about 5 seconds flat.
She usually sleeps on a pair of pillows just for her, next to me in bed.
Her efforts to vomit on my head have so far been fruitless but I think she'll keep trying until she succeeds.
Our kitten (1 yr old) has recently progressed to birds from slugs.
A few weeks ago we were lying in bed and my partner starts freaking out, cos Poppy brought in a blackbird and plopped it right on the floor next to his side of the bed. Of course I had to go and clear it up. Poor bird :( Had to say thanks to my kitty though for providing food :D
My cat killed a mouse and left it by my hairbrush for me to accidentally touch. She likes to watch your reaction and gets offended if you don't seem excited about it.
Hahaha! My cat Avalon is an indoor cat, so luckily for me there are no bad surprises like this. I did wake up once and found that he had vomited next to me on the bed. Aaargh!
i just woke up to my cat playing hackie sack with a mouse in my room. he was was so proud and happy about it, but as it's 5am on a saturday, it had to go.
My mini poodle once decided that the best way to wake me up was to leave a dead squirrel right next to my head in bed. Fun did not ensue. Sometimes I think she wants to be a kitty!
My old boy Porky once came up on the deck to the sliding glass door with a bird in his mouth. He opened his mouth to ask to be let back in, and the bird flew off, leaving ole Porky sitting there with a confused expression and half a dozen little feathers stuck to his lips. One of my favorite cat moments...
That's nothing. One day I was lying on my bed, searching for the remote. Suddenly I feel something moist through the sheet (really weird). When I lifted it, there it was... a RIGHT HALF of a bird (with no head, of course).
You are lucky. Mine brought me one that was ALIVE! She release it upon my room and it started running everywhere! I had to close the door so it wouldn't go to any other room. So... There I was, like a horror movie, locked in a room with a mouse hiding somewhere, and armed with only my cat Puchiko :3!

ReplyDeleteoh my cats play with them to death, but they never eat what they catch :(

YES! dinner time and odd hours of the night O_o
ReplyDeleteI love the way you illustrate all this silly things which every cat`s owner knows good:)
ReplyDeleteI let myself to add your blog to my links.
My three cats just started going outside, so I haven't yet been "delighted" with any surprises.
ReplyDeleteHowever, my other catty, Nenno, would bring home birds-- mostly birds, but also mice, and even a gopher once.
Many times not dead, just terribly/mortally wounded (usually flapping its wings hysterically in the bathtub). That shit always broke my heart. :{

ReplyDeleteoh...gosh.
ReplyDelete@hank-did you save the mice? :)
ReplyDeleteOMG, haha! ^^

Yes, that time I did. most of the time she would have her fun and then have a snack but this time they got to go free (in the field across the street)

ReplyDeleteHeh...we had a cat bring in a squirrel in the midst of night time fun...that just killed the mood right quick!
ReplyDeleteick! i wonder what my cat would do if she found a mouse.... :|

ReplyDeleteour cat one time put a dead lizard on my unopened pop can....
ReplyDeletemy poor cat Simba once brought in a huge frog, the strange thing was it had no bite marks, it was just dead
ReplyDeleteThat's the one thing I don't like about cats... mice are cute too, don't kill them D:
ReplyDeleteBut I always congratulate my cat anyway, because it's so proud of its kill that I can't be mad at it... DX
But have you ever had your cat literally drop a dead mouse on the side of your face as you're sleeping?
ReplyDeleteoooh! brings you pressent! is gud sign.
ReplyDeleteMy cat doesn't bring me presents of any sort. Sometimes she'll show off her toy mice but yeah.
ReplyDeleteFitting that she killed the mouse at the keyboard...

ReplyDeleteWe don't go outside, but we do enjoy chittering at the birds through the window.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing we enjoy is going to either Bob or Monika after we cough up a hairball and leading them to it so they know to pick it up.
We saw a lot of mice destroy and eat up my stuff before we had cats, but after we kept a cat I guess no mouse dared to enter our house... so lucky me!

my kittens are flycatchers only... then whe found the bodies all over the floor, like vomit or in the litter box, as... you know what. hahahaha
ReplyDeletemy cat will hunt them and kill them then she announces to the world of her quest but she won't eat them

ReplyDeleteAwesome. I have an entire song titled: Presents on My Pillow. The chorus inclues "shrew bop, shrew bop bop"
ReplyDeletehey, i know this scene. it was happened to me too lol
ReplyDeletethat happened so many times... birds, mice with their inside out
