I relocated to San Francisco for a design job while Victor and the pets remained in Phoenix. We were apart for about a year prior to them moving with me. This is how we communicated every day. I would lay on the floor, on a 2-inch mattress as I would watch my cats through the computer. Fortunately, computers are cat magnets.

  3. My husband has been traveling for work a lot lately (2 weeks abroad, one in US, 2 abroad, etc). We videochat rather frequently, and he ALWAYS asks to see the cats! It's so funny that we're not the only ones!

  4. Oh man, I don't think I could be apart from my cats for a year. I'd love to go teach English overseas but my cats hold me back.

  12. I wish my Rumi was that happy to video conference! Every time I grab her to show my Mum (currently overseas), she tries so hard to get away and meows like crazy, pushing my face away with her paws as I try to fit both our heads into screen view - part of the amusement for Mum, tho, so maybe she secretly knos wat she's doing! ^_^

  13. I'm going through this exact thing right now, but for 6 months. How were your cats with you when you got them back? I'm worried mine will never forgive me.

  16. This comic is SO adorable. But even seeing them and "talking" to them through the computer... I don't know if I could go without snorgling on their tummies and having a kitty curled on my legs when I sleep. Or having to type around a sleepy, furry sweetie -- like I'm doing now! :D

  17. I have two cats and I just can't imagine to be apart from them for a year. Now my relationship is falling apart and the fights about cats starts. We both want to keep them! I think we gonna end up in court :/ My bofirend said: okay so let's have one each but how i can choose?! That's sick :(

  19. being apart a year must have been really hard... thank god for the internet. i don't even know how long-distance relationships could have worked before its invention. :/

  20. it was :( as much as i think snail mail is romantic, i would've been impatient about waiting for letters to arrive.

  21. I love your panels-- they're so cute. It's like they're telling the story of my life! Except without men, since my cat lady-ness drives them away if I fail to. ;)

But I just wanted to say I struggled really hard to even housesit for other people when I had my one cat (and lived with my parents), but I got so homesick when I went to visit someone for a week last year I couldn't stand it. Mostly because I missed my cat.

Now I have FIVE cats, and I can't imagine being gone for a week...let alone a year! I got kind of teary-eyed reading this. I would be horribly lonely without my pets. Isn't the internet great, though? Gotta love being able to video chat and see the kitties! I'm glad all of that is behind you now, but it must have been hard.

  24. Cats miss their humans. I remember I was away from home for a week and my mom said that my cat entered my room every day and waited for me there

  26. I just came across this comic and have to say i did something similar. On my deployments my husband would bring the cat up to the web cam so I could see her :) Soon as I finally got home she'd be attached to me.
