Not so much their water bowl. Sometimes, yes. But they prefer more fancy means. The faucet, by far, is my creamsicle cat's favourite. She especially loves it if I cup my hand under the trickling water and she drinks from my palms. If I pull away she will meow and paw at me.

  2. I have to keep a washing up bowl with about an inch of water on the side of the bath - Nico won't drink from snything else.
When he was a kitten he didn't drink for nearly 3 days, except for drips off my finger. Then I caught him drinking from a pint glass, and realised he didn't like his bowl. Picky.

  3. We have a "Catit Fresh & Clear Drinking Water Fountain" that is a little bowl which circulates the water. One of our cats quite often just stares at the water in it running (and complains if its been turned off...). Highly recommended since it keeps the water fresh. :D

  4. Apparently, if a cat's water bowl is close to its food bowl then they won't use it. This is due to some evolutionary throw back where the corpse of a kill could contaminate nearby water sources. Which sounds a bit far fetched for me, but I like to imagine my cats as ruthless hunters bringing fear to the creatures of some jungle or plain. Instead, they prefer to drink out of the dog's water bowl.

  5. I also use drinking fountains for my cats. My oldest just bats regular bowls of water around, like she's trying to make it move and become drinkable or something. lol And that causes an awful mess, especially if they've dropped food on the food mat or floor. The last fountain I had, a Drinkwell, finally gave out on me, so I've recently ordered a ceramic fountain. It's more expensive, but if it's easier to clean I'm all for it. I found the Drinkwells (I had two; had to replace the first one since it wore out eventually) to be a serious pain to clean. They always looked so grimy no matter what I did, and after a while my cats were less interested in drinking from them because the water was less fresh. And then, eventually, the motor gave out. I let my oldest drink from the tub tap for a while until I could get a replacement fountain. I have high hopes for this one. I'm sure Sai will be overjoyed to finally have her running water back.

  6. My cat discovered a small vase on the coffee table. If the flowers are in the way she'll knock them out of the vase. And when the water got too low she just knocked the whole thing over to drink.

    There's no vase there anymore.

  7. We used to have one of those pop bottle self-watering bowl thing... our cats used to lie on the floor and punch it to make it bubble. Eventually they were so obsessed with bubbles that entire bottles of water would end up on the kitchen floor. Now they have a dog-sized water dish, so they drink out of the toilet.

  8. Hey, one thing that might help is to move the water away from the food. In nature, animals wouldn't bring their kill to their water source...some people say that's why cats will drink less water if it's near their food - they dont' like the smell of food near it.....try it and let us know!

  9. I remember having a bath, complete with mountains of bubbles (and glitter), and my clever-kitty wandered in. He stood on his back legs looking at the bath, and then decided to drink...from the bath...full of bubbles and human *sigh*

Then he jumped onto the bath edge, walked all the way round to say hello to me :) then he realised he was stuck, backed up, slipped, and landed in the bath with me :3

  10. I had a pretty nasty ingrown toe nail that I needed surgically removed. I had to soak it several times daily. No matter how gross or bloody the water was, if I left a bucket of hot, sea salt water unattended, the cats would drink from it. Gross.

  11. Sounds like your creamsickle would love a cat fountain! We enjoy our Drinkwell so much, I would never be without one for them again. LOVE the cartoon! Your depictions of cats are so adorable...

  12. Anonymous: Lol my Sai gets on the tub edge all the time when I'm taking a bubble bath, but she has yet to fall in! She usually sticks her paw in the water---yes, despite lavender vanilla scented bubbles---and lick the water off her paw.

jmuhj: Just like you said, I would suggest anyone with finicky drinkers get a cat fountain! Plastic ones do tend to get moldy after a while, but I think starting cheap and finding out if they like it is the best way to go before trying anything more expensive. I just can't go without one now. Letting the tap water run 24/7 also makes the water bill run. Straight up. x_x

  13. So true! Dimitri does all of that (except the toilet) all the time! He doesn't wanna drink form his bowl =/.

  15. We have been gypped! We ONLY have the drinking fountains here for water. The toilets all have the lids down, there are no dripping faucets (I would hate that anyhow 'cause I don't like getting wet), and we have no fish and no tea! Gypped, I tell you!

  16. that is very cute :)
luckily our cats drink from the bowl we provided them..hehe

  17. You should buy them a cat fountain...My kitten is drinking way much water since we bought it. They usually prefer drinking water that is not stagnant...

  18. My cat goes crazy if I have a bottle of water and demands (DEMANDS!) that I let her have some. I either have to precariously let her lick inside the bottle or pour a bit into the cap and let her drink it from there.

  19. Funny everyone's having this discussion - last night I saw an ad on TV for a kitchen faucet that's touch operated, so that when your hands are gooey you can use the back of your hand to tap it.

The only thought in my head was "Cats.... NO."

  20. @claire: i think my water bill will go up if i got the touch operated faucet O_o

  21. My first cat would fall into the toilet while drinking.
Now, my cats prefer the decorative tabletop fountain, or my tea. The little buggers love tea!

But, this is still cute anyway.

  25. Having 15 cats, I've seen them drinking from every place you mentioned at one time or another...except the fishbowl. If only I had fish...

  26. Yes to the tub and faucet! My cats actually have multiple water dishes in the house - one in the bedroom (where they spend lots of time), one in the living room, and one in the kitchen. I used to have a plastic fountain, but they stopped using it. They're usually good at bowl drinking, unless the neighbour's dog has been over and put his slimy, drooly mouth in their bowls.

  27. You've missed the bidet! Sushi runs ahead of me yelling "Turn left! Turn left into the bathroom!" if I go anywhere near the bedroom wing. Next it's "Turn it on, turn it on!" until there's a small drip going. Enough that a white cat can curl up in a white bidet and simultaneaously drink and nap. He can keep this up for quite a while! And guess who's always the sucker!

  28. my kitteh just loves drinking water and ALOT.. thank God i have no problem on that..but he's a picky eater...grrrr...does anyone know why my cat looks slim even if he ate like 10x a day....and oh! she just loves to play all day long.....never get tired of it and after that she begs for food!

  29. The breeder I got my cat from used fountains for their water, so my cat loves to drink water. Though, since she chewed the power cord to her fountain in half she's had to make do with water in a bowl.

  32. My Maine Coone will only drink out of the sink tap, or the bath tub tap, and occasionally he'll drink out of the toilet. He's also apt to steal a few sips of my ice tea or water when I'm not looking.

  33. If my cat is irritating me, I turn on the tap in the bathroom and he will sit for hours alternately attempting to drink from it and wondering why his head is getting wet.

  34. I know this is an old comic.. but did you ever tried to but the water bowl to a whole different place then the bowl with cat food?
we had them both together and my kitty didnt want to drink also from it - I heard it's because they earlier didnt drank from water places where they hunted for birds and stuff because the water could become dirty from the dead leftovers :X or somethin' like that.

  35. I have a leaky bathtub facet, and leave a bowl to catch the water. It is my cats favorite drinking hole.
