Maybe they think they’re drowning their prey.

  1. Like Cap'n Cruch, mice hurt the roof of your mouth unless you soak them in the bowl for a while.

  2. Ugh my cat does this too!

  3. I read somewhere that for them this is a "safe place"

  4. My kitty Lola likes to bring feathers from outside and put them in her food bowl. :) xx

  5. Not only does my cat do this, but just today when I got home and went to feed him I found his water bowl UPSIDE DOWN and even then he'd already placed two toys on top of it XD.

  6. My previous cat always used to put his toys in his biscuits. And his prey. Once he put a rabbit on top of them.

  7. This is my cat. The more she likes a toy the faster it ends up in the water bowl.

  8. Ha I think so! My sis's cats throw their colored mice in the water...and the dye makes the water turn colors. I think they do this to make the water look pretty...

  9. OMG and I though mine were special! :D My cats have a bunny filled with catnip... it ALWAYS ends up in the water bowl. We say that water is too plain for them so they're making tea.

  10. my cat does this! I would love to know why! nothing like stepping on a soaking wet mouse placed so nicely at the bedside to start the morning...

(we also call it Mousey Tea, Yadira!)

  11. Ha! My female always do that!

  12. Oh my gosh!! I thought my cat was the only one that did this!!! I think it's because he's trying to make cat nip tea..... :)

  13. This happens in our house too! I love the top right image - as you know this is what one of mine does. The only time he sits still for a minute :)

  14. Cats do this because the food/water bowl is their favorite place and because it is a place that belongs to them alone. Putting a toy there is a way of saying "MINE!"
So, if YOU put a new toy next to the water bowl while they watch, they will be especially pleased and touched because you are saying "YOURS!" with the gift.
    :)

Just wanted to say that what you mentioned was very interesting!

    4. What if you put it *in* the water? Isn't that even better?! /sarcasm :-)

    1. Our one male does this with my wife's pony tail holders. He's even dropped them into the toilet. Needless to say, those get tossed immediately.

    2. My cat also takes the pony tail holder and drops them by the food bowl or in it. Yes, there was an incident once when he hacked up a furball and up came a pony tail holder. (I never leave him alone with them but I think he dragged this one out from behind a bookcase- he remembers where he hides them).

  17. My cat loves doing this! He also makes sure to tap/dunk them several times. I'll take the water bowl over the kitty litter box, which is his other fave spot to leave toys :p

  18. Our youngest taught the next eldest how to do this, and he hasn't stopped. This gets a bit messy as his favorite toys are crumpled balls of paper!

  19. Rarely seen cat drowned own toys.

  20. My cats don't do this. They do hide them in the same place though. So, when their toys are missing, I know where to look, which is usually behind the toilet, on the floor. Don't know why they seem to think that's a hiding place.

  21. I thought this was a weird thing my cat does!! He used to very nicely play catch with my hair elastics, and brings them back. Occasionally they would be wet. Now a days, I throw, he chases and dunks it in the water and can't get it out!

  22. i thought my cat was a weirdo. she used to catch small lizards and drown them :( i didn't particularly like this about her but, i miss her so much! i wouldn't mind catching her dunking a lizard again...

  23. most of the pets are senseless about the toys. each time their motive is to distroy the toys.

  24. Our cat Sky creates works of Purrfurmance Art by dropping his toys into the water bowls. He posts them on the blog, but always complains that we humans do not understand his Art.

  25. one of my cats takes her food and dunks it into the water to make it moist, sometimes i think that's what they are trying to do to the cat toy. The water bowl sure ends up looking disgusting with random food and toys in it mixed with cat fur and litter.

  26. My cat didn't start doing this until recently. We left her 5 bowls of water when we left for four days. She put a hair tie in three of those bowls

  27. My cat plays fetch, and invariably ends up bringing me a stopping wet toy. Or, when I'm asleep, dropping said toy on my head. Hr also tries to climb into the shower with me and would play in the toilet if I didn't keep the lid shut. He's a character.

  28. My cat Louie did that when I had him...I still don't understand why.
