The most common one in my home is the Pillow Takeover. It's okay. As long as they're happy, I guess.

A few things:
1. Here's some pics from the Changing Hands Tempe book signing. Thanks so much to everyone who went to the event!
2. The dust is finally settling at home since the move and it's nice to finally have my own computer out instead of borrowing someone else's.
3. Everything in my shop will be 15% off 'til Sunday, 12/4. Just enter the discount code: purrrr.
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! xoxo
Mine does the pillow takeover every night. Then proceeds to knead my hair. Then decides that my hip/chest make a better sleeping spot anyways.
ReplyDeleteAnd people say having a cat is less work than a kid...
My cat was fond of being a face warmer, she always wanted to sleep on it, not comfy at all!
ReplyDeleteMine likes to get between my feet...on the one hand I'm excited that she wants to snuggle...but on the other, it's reeeeally hard to sleep in one position all night :/
ReplyDeletehmmm my human daughter sleeps like a cat ^^
ReplyDeleteI usually have the 3/4 takeover or the spot take over. My one cat doesn't necessarily sit on my pillow but he will move to the spot where I usually sit after I have vacated :P
ReplyDeleteMine likes to sleep in the middle of the bed, no matter the size of said bed or who is in it or in where.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I go to sleep in the middle of my matress and wake up in the last 20cm of a side.
Either that or the foot-warmer. NOT COOL IN THE SUMMER. (no pun intended)
My cat does the boob warmer, similar to the butt warmer but you wake up with a tail in your mouth.
ReplyDeleteThe most popular in my house are "the pillow take over" and "the foot room thieves"
ReplyDeleteat our house its a combination of the pillow takeover with a head warmer or ear warmer. My sis gets special treatment when she visits - "butt in face"
ReplyDeleteOne of mine is a tummy-warmer, another is a between-the-knees curl-upper, and the smallest take up the most space, pushing me to the middle of the bed and my honey to the edge!
ReplyDeletehehe, mine is definitely the butt warmer :)
ReplyDeleteWe get the Inbetweener and the Footroom Takeover in our house.
ReplyDeleteI most definitely have a butt warmer. But she also often curls up between my legs so you can't move anymore.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is soooo true! This is probably my favorite comics of yours! Pillow takeover happens almost every night, while the butt warmer happens on weekends when I'm too lazy to get up early :)
ReplyDeletewe mostly have an in-betweener that gets these "i can't decide which of you i love the most" kneading attacks at around 4 am. i'm kinda hoping she'll get over them when she gets bigger. call me crazy but i actually prefer sleep at that time.
ReplyDeletemy tuna is a butt warmer
ReplyDeletemy matthew is a pillow take over
my simba is the 3/4
my little snowy is a spoon...
ilove it!!!!!!!!!
I have another one - The Pretzel. It's where I am twisted into odd shapes to fit around the cat at the foot of the bed, the cat in the middle of the bed and the cat at the head of the bed.
ReplyDeleteOne of my cats is notorious for the pillow takeover! And the other rarely sleeps with me but if she does, she'll just sleep next to me or by my legs :)
ReplyDeletemine is butt or belly warmer. :)
ReplyDelete@Felicity is right. I am one of them. I like to lie between the legs of the servants and if they want to turn on their sides, they have to manage it without disturbing me, consequently ending up in twisted positions. I also sleep sometimes on the upper chest/throat of Tiny Lady.
ReplyDeleteI love when mine sleep in between us - it makes us feel like a family! I'd like the Buttwarmer better if it didn't aggravate my lower back pain... =)
ReplyDeleteI keep a fleece blankie on the corner of the bed. The cats pretty much stay on it.
ReplyDeleteOf all my kitties, the 3/4s was the most common. Though I had a kitty that would sleep in the crook of my legs, another that would sprawl across my neck, and another that either liked to sleep on my belly, or nestled up in my armpit. Cats are so funny. :P
ReplyDeleteMine will stand next to me in the bed and paw at me until I oblige him by spreading my legs enough so he can curl up between them. Often I wake up later and want to turn over but one leg is trapped under the covers, pinned between him and my husband who usually has rolled on top of the quilt by then. He's also been known to stand next to me on the couch and paw at my leg until I become his human kitty-bed. If I fall asleep on my stomach on the couch, i wake up with him on the backs of my thighs. Fortunately the other cat is content to sleep beside you, and jumps up to leave with the slightest disturbance.
ReplyDeleteMy kitty likes to spoon, especially now that it's starting to get so cold. She will also claw at the covers until I let her under. Occasionally she claws me in the process.
ReplyDeleteThe pillow take-over often turns into the "I want to be your hat" game. They curl up around your head...if you move they kick you in the ear. First one to move loses. Lol!
ReplyDeleteI regularly am victimized by the "pin-down". It starts with the smallest cat curling up on my legs (so cute! don't want to wake her!), followed by 3-4 more cats deciding they want to lie on top of the blanket but right up against me. With at least one cat on each side, I'm effectively locked into a single position for the entire night, making for some very stiff & sore mornings.
ReplyDeleteWith my dogs it's a combo of the 3/4 and the in-betweener. Usually my husband and I are clinging to, or hanging off each side of the bed, while they sprawl out in the middle.
ReplyDeleteWe are a 3/4 takeover house.
ReplyDeleteOnly one of mine sleeps on the bed, and he goes between my legs and massages my ankles. I've learned how to manoeuvre onto my side without disturbing him. His sister sometimes gets on the bed in the morning, and she will sit right between your thighs and place her paws on your lower tummy, which is quite disconcerting...
ReplyDeletelolll. I have experienced all of these except the steamroller - mine do not like being smooshed. I have one that regularly sleeps on my pillow--luckily for both of us I have tons of pillows on the bed so we each have our own with some to spare.
ReplyDeletemine is the crotch snuggler. i've learned to sleep very still or suffer his retribution.
ReplyDeleteMine are definitely the Pillow Takeover variety. Especially now, I've put my fleece pillowcases on, the cats are stealing aplenty. I use a contoured neck pillow, and my one gal Finn likes to stretch herself into it. I usually fall asleep ON the pillow, but wake up in the middle of the night BETWEEN the pillows, with both cats on mine. I even bought a larger bed that fits THREE pillows, and yet the cats both prefer mine.
ReplyDeleteHahaha. My cat only does the Spoon and the Inbetweener. Then she drools all over the blanket or my arm. She use to like to sleep between my knees when I would lay on my stomach when she was a kitten, but not so much anymore. I love your comics!!

ReplyDeleteSince I'm divorced, my cats have their own pillows on the bed and are quite happy with that arrangement.
ReplyDeleteAll of these maneuvers are happening at our house, and then some. The only one that really sort of bugs me is the running battle pillow-and-head-zone fight -- two or more cats required. Sleep is NOT an option.
ReplyDeleteI think you missed one (and the most common for me, anyway), just like Blue Eyed Night Owl mentioned. My cats do what I call the leg anchor...if I am sleeping face up, they will settle on top of my legs and make a little nest. Then I notice when I am trying to turn around and I can't because I have this heavy anchor pinning me down...
ReplyDeleteMy cat usually is an in-betweener/pillow takeover type of guy.
ReplyDeleteWe have 6 cats, so we fit into multiple categories (and wonder how we ever get any sleep!)...We have a Pillow Takeover cat, The Spoon, The In-Betweener, and The Butt Warmer. It can vary a little bit, but it really all comes down to who gets on Mom's pillow the fastest!
ReplyDeleteIve got a butt/tummy warmer ;D
ReplyDeleteOh I've DEFINITELY experienced the butt warmer with my friend's cat. And then I want to turn over and go "Oh no I can't I'll disturb kitty" and then I try to ask myself WHY is kitty's slumber more important than mine?? I only get 8 hours at most, kitty gets 20!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your blog!! It is great to know there is another socially inept cat lover out there! I met you at Changing Hands the other day and adore your new book!!
ReplyDeleteLol! I had a butt-warmer kitty, but she was also a head-masher.
ReplyDeleteYour work is so funny and amazing - I just subscribed!

My cats prefer the in-between or the buttwarmer. Sometimes they semm to get bigger and bigger, so they take up a lot of space on the bed...

ReplyDeleteQueen Missy of Missylandia has mentioned both of my favorites! Upper chest and between the legs.
ReplyDeleteOoh my favorite is the butt-warmer, but she often drapers herself over my legs, which is nice, too. Then she turns into a face-swatter in the morning when she's hungry.
ReplyDeleteOur cat does the "In-Betweener", we call her Chaperone Kitty.
ReplyDeleteIn this neck of the woodds, we call the in-betweener "cat valley."
ReplyDeleteIf it comes to my cat, she likes the butt burner position the most.

HAH! Pillow takeover and butt warmers are big in this house. Occasionally we get the spoon, and it makes me the happiest girl in the whole wide world.
ReplyDeletebowser dog beds sale are bedding available for dogs. There are a variety of beds available in the market.
ReplyDeleteThe really funny thing is you forgot about kittens ^_^ where they spontaneously attack your limbs in the middle of the night, biting and clawing a the lumps in the bed.
ReplyDeleteI've owned about 4 cats in my total experience, and all of them refuse to sleep anywhere further up than my feet, when they join me in bed ):
ReplyDeleteThe only one my precious is not allowed to do is the pillow takeover. Though she tries. But I love the butt and chest warmer. Lately she has been doing the "bed bug" if there is any little opening in our blankets she crawls around under the blankets. Though currently she is doing the pit sniffer...and it is adorable>_<
ReplyDeleteI have three cats, had five, and will have six once we tame a family a ferals currently living downstairs. (Our cats are not happy about being trapped upstairs with us all the time! xD)
ReplyDeleteAnyways, one of my kitties, who was hit by a car on August 3rd, 2011, at the age of 2 years 3 months, and killed on impact, used to love to cuddle with me under the blankets. I remember how after we spayed her, I was only up for two or three hours a day, taken in fifteen minute here-and-there breaks, during which I'd slip a hot water bottle into the bed beside her and dash away, careful not to wake her. However, she'd soon wake up and walk over on these pitiful, shaky legs and meow at me insistently until I picked her up and carried her back to the bed to cuddle. xD I miss her so much. :(
My other kitty, her brother, sleeps on my pillow ALL DAY, but leaves when I crawl into bed.
Her mother does various things. When she's cold and I'm lucky, she'll come under the blankets with me and lay between my legs so I have to be VERY CAREFUL when moving, or she'll lay on my chest and drool all over me. Mostly she does the chest thing in the morning to wake me up/say hello.
My other cat, no relation to Mew, (The one who died) sleeps at the foot of the bed or on the couch.
I had a cat who'd sleep on my mom's pillow/face/neck, or, most often, at our feet, biting us if we moved or kicked him in the slightest. xD (Obviously the kicks were accidental! o:)
Nice! but I've never met a cat that goes for the steamroller, mine nest around my face, my chest or my feet but never under me. They like their freedom, just not mine :)
ReplyDeleteOh man, my cat loves for me to get in a upside down v shape, and then sleeps between my legs. it's comfortable, so it works for me.
ReplyDeleteHere's a new one for you: I call it The Rotator: First the dog curls up against my left knee and snuggles in close, then the cat plasters himself against the right side of the head. Now if I wish to move, I must shift in a clockwise direction. But every time I shift they snuggle in closer again. Thus I wake up lying sideways on the bed with my feet hanging over the edge almost every morning.
