I have antsy feet, especially in the morning. The cats view my feet under the blanket as their play thing. It is painful.

Oh, I’ve been getting DMs and emails on toilet cuddling since I’ve posted that comic. I find it strangely comforting that I am not alone in this.

  4. My cats do the same and yes, it's really painful... but you can't avoid keep moving your feet =)

  5. my feet automatically move in the morning. i've always been like this. and i've always had cat. so...

  6. Hahahaha! Love this!!

Generally my cats don't bother my feet (or arms) when I'm in bed. But our feet are in serious danger from our cats if we wear socks!! Bare feet, they leave alone or are gentle. But our kitties think socks equal armor protection, and go into all out warfare!!

  7. Oh man...I'm lucky. I don't really move in my sleep, but my girl cat sleeps on my pillow above my head and my boy cat curls up beside me. The only time I'm in trouble is if I don't cuddle him enough before getting out of bed...then he runs at my feet to trip me.

  8. yes this happens to me all the time and sometimes I even do it to keep them amused especially when they are eyeing something more expensive:P lol

  10. So last night I'm sitting at dinner with friends and acquaintances that all happened to be cat people. Naturally after a while the subject drifts towards our cats, and after about 20 minutes someone said something about the bathroom in a story they were telling. The conversation then went something like this.

"Oh my god, so there's this webcomic, this chick draws about cats..."
    me: "CAT VS HUMAN."
everyone: "YES. IT IS ALL TRUE."
"that thing she wrote about the bathroom"
"oh my god yes, mine do that ALL THE TIME"
"seriously they think it is their own special petting time"
"it's like, hey, you're just sitting there doing nothing, how about paying me some attention"
    "I know, right"

    ...

so not only are you NOT ALONE but now you have sparked random independent discussions about cat-bathroom behavior. ;)

  11. lol!!! i need to know the answer to this cat-bathroom phenom!

  12. My kitty ALWAYS sleeps on my bed at night with me, and my feet wriggling is somehow ALWAYS a source of surprise and alarm to her!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. My bf and I let the kitty play on the bed sometimes, we put our hands under the quilt and move them around until she pounces.
Have also found this fun game I have dubbed "big eyes, little eyes". She sits on the bed and her pupils are a normal size... start moving your hand under the quilt and her pupils grow so huge! It's fun.

  14. My cat doesn't do this :o/ I feel a bit jealous. Although on the weekends after I get out of bed she comes and meows at me. At me as if to demand attention, it's borderline hostile.

    ReplyDelete
  15. i noticed the big/little eyes too! that's so funny!

  16. This is why the cats aren't allowed in our bedroom when we're sleeping. Helena, my orange girl, is the culprit. But if she's out and Crookshanks is in, she'll wail at the door. So they both stay out at night.

  17. It is my evening/night play with my Ziggy ! Maybe he thinks it is a mouse he has to catch ... He becomes crazy cause he never catches her (him ? it ? i'm French)
    Have a nice day !

  18. Yesterday, I visited my parents, servants to the most beautiful cat in the world. I realized that many cat-people put towels on beds and couches and chairs for the cat to sit on, but cats of course don't even notice the towels and sit wherever they want (usually right next to the towel). My parents even bought some silk-towel for the cat to sit on and guess what, she still ignores it...

Love your comics BTW, keep up the good work :)

  19. My cat is an asshole about it. He gets under the covers for better fang action in the wee hours of the morning when I want to sleep in and he wants to eat.

  20. Soo true!
I'm ok in the winter, our duvet offers enough protection from kitty claws. In this heat though, they get through the thin blanket and my feet are filled with holes!

We call this game 'Bed Mice' :D

    ReplyDelete
  21. in addition to the feet, hands and faces hanging on the edge of the bed are easy targets for these piranhas around my boat ... i say bed.

but i still love them :3

    ReplyDelete
  22. Mine don't want my feet, they want my bangs. Yeah, they don't sleep with me anymore after I got killed in the face one night, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Bailey has worked out how to get his paws under the duvet to catch the feetsmonsters. THAT hurts.

    ReplyDelete
  24. the reason your comics are so much fun is because they're true. ain't it funny how most cats act the same? ;)) when my cat was little, me and my bf and my sister all had sour feet every morning :) 3 people, 1 cat ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. im glad my kitties dont do this =D
But one will lye on top of you while your in bed and will attack you if you try to get up.

    ReplyDelete
  26. All kitties do that! Mine were terrible the first few weeks, but now they're gentler, so I actually made it a game to play with them at night. On the other hand, my black kittie loves to chew on my fingers, specially when she thinks it's cuddle time, even if it is 4am...xD

    ReplyDelete
  27. It really hurts!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Speaking of cat-bathroom behavior: my cat follow me in the bathroom, jump on the washing machine and watch me showering, and ask (meow) loudly to let him taste some of the soap foam i'm having on my shoulder. Every time, winter of summer. I wonder what my neighbors think i'm doing to him :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Haha, that is so typical :-)

No toilet cuddling for me though, but my cat loves to watch :-s Why do they do this?!

    ReplyDelete
  30. My cat loves playing with my feet or hands under the cover. It ended up so bad that every night he comes to me on bedtime and expects me to play with him like that. If i dont he paws me and my cover with nails... And sometimes i just need my sleep!

    ReplyDelete
  31. One of my cats used to be really bad as a kitten - one time he bit so hard with those needle teeth he really drew blood. After that, I makde sure to have a heavy comforter at the foot of the bed even on hot days and put my feet in a pocket of it like armor. Eventually he grew out of the serious biting and saves it for real animals.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The only reason I still have all my toes today: I sleep under a duvet. Feathers can save your life!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ah, yes. We call that the "foot monster" in our house. It's fine in the winter when we use a thick comforter, but in the summer when left with only a thin quilt as a last line of defense...we'll let's just say we keep the rubbing alcohol and bandages near the bed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hahaha I loved ... I like kittens then do not remember why I have the burning feet.

    ReplyDelete
  35. We have a very bad infestation of bed mice that our 3 cats very diligently attack. It's really for our protection.

    ReplyDelete
  36. LOL! The scars we get from love:)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well, Yasmine,
at least you only show a singular assault. Around here, it's more likely to be a platoon effort ;)

And no, you're far from alone. Cats being such clean and mysterious folk, it stands to reason that they'd want to share our cleaning place that's "off limits" to others ;)

    ReplyDelete
  38. My cats do this, too. I swear, it's so painful to be woken up at six in the morning by hungry kitties trying to eat your toes.
    Them:
    =^_~= nyaaa~!

    Me:
    Q_Q ...

    ReplyDelete
  39. My cat bites/claws my feet in the morning. That makes me scream. That scream wakes up my husband. My husband feeds the cat. It's a system.

My cat sometimes tries to cuddle up with me when I'm using the toilet, and he even sticks his face in the shower curtain to say hello when I'm showering. He hates being excluded, as do we all.

    ReplyDelete
  40. ahahaha! My cat did that to me this morning! I've found that he would not attack if you show a bit of your foot, but will attack you if you are fully covered by the blanket.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Our kitty would do that all the time when she was a kitten (she also used to chew on my hair). Now she leaves my toes alone, for the most part. I love that she always knows when I'm about to wake up and will come curl up next to my face so I can pet her.

    ReplyDelete
  42. It happened to me while I was a guest in a house with a cat last week. I guess the cat liked me or she just wanted me out of her house! It is so funny that I saw this comic right now!

    ReplyDelete
  43. one of my cats is like this. it's hard to not just kick him (not too hard of course!) to make him stop.... >.>;

    ReplyDelete
  44. hahaha.. It also happen to me..

    ReplyDelete
  45. Moving toes under blankets are really quite attractive to kittehs. Learned that one the hard way. And yes, my cat always follows me into the bathroom and wants cuddles at the most inopportune times. Once, he tried to make a little "bed" in my pants as they were close to the floor while I was on the pot. I nearly died laughing. I have really been enjoying your cartoons, and hope you can come visit my blog sometime.

  46. Two of our cats liked to attack feet when they were little. Those needle-claws go right through blankets!! >_< We got them to stop by doing two things:

    1. Tossing them off the bed as soon as they attack.
    2. Squirting them with water. I kept a squirt bottle on my nightstand for handy access. ^_^ This was my preferred method for when I was sleepy and didn't want to move.

Since it happens to you in the morning I think your best bet would be to try a squirt bottle. :( Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ha! I remember my friends cat doing that to me during sleepovers, roll over and all of a sudden my feet were getting attacked like they were filled with catnip.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I actually have an extra blanket only at the bottom of my bed so they can attack all they want and my feet aren't torn to shreds. Lol it's awesome I am not the only one going through this.

    ReplyDelete
  49. This happens at least daily during my "sleep." My cat Capone is the most intelligent cat (okay, I'm a little biased), but any time I place my feet under sheets or a blanket-even while he is watching-he instantly thinks my toes are mice scurrying around waiting to be pounced!!! OUCH!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hey! I just wanted to let you know that I LOVE you! You remind me so much of myself and your kitties remind me so much of mine! I check your blog every other day and can't wait for more :3

    xoxo Leah

This of course, is because ot the legend amongst cats of the mythical "bed mice". As no cat has ever caught one the story cannot be disproved and so the chase must go on...

    ReplyDelete
  52. you relax in the bathroom cats sense that and want to be cuddled up and relaxed with you, also people tend to not pay attention to them in the potty which in kitty behavior is actually an invitation to come visit

    ReplyDelete
  53. lol! i love how the bed is ripped to shreds in the corner, just like all cat lovers mattreses are :-D (or should it be D: hehe)

    ReplyDelete
  54. No!! My cat does it too!!!!! It´s really painful :P

    ReplyDelete
  55. My kittehs don't do it. It's because I reflex-kick if I'm hurt while asleep. It's not a conscious decision, I swear! =(

So, they stay away from my feet. But since I sleep under a windowsill, the boy goes up there and Watches His Domain, and since I sleep on my side with the bottom arm stretched out, the girl jumps up, lies on the arm as a futon, and sleeps in my arms.

Unless of course I'm actually sleeping instead of petting her. Then she extends one paw, deploys the claws, and taps me oh-so-gently on the nose.

    Her hooman gets the point.

  56. Hahahahahaha my cat has scratched up the corner of my mattress too!

  57. Babey, the five-year-old cat, likes to attack my feet when they're under a blanket. Lacey, the ten-year-old, likes to crawl under the blanket and attack your hand if you try and pet her. And then Babey is a general turd.
Oh I love my kitties (:
I used to have a dog too, but she died. When we first got Babey, Daisy acted as her surrogate mother. It was adorable. Babey still doesn't really like cat food.
