This also applies to giving baths.

  1. My cat has a box that is the exact same size and shape as her carrier that she freely goes into and hangs out in for hours but she reacts this same way to her carrier. And she won't go near the bath tub, even when it's empty. Even if there was a roasted chicken chillin' in some tuna and gravy sauce, she wouldn't go near it!

  3. We have two cats, each of whom has a seriously divergent view of travel. Big Kitty (he's 8) broke out of every cat carrier we ever bought. The only way we can get him to the vet is by stuffing him into a zippered duffel bag and carefully placing it on the floor of our car's backseat. He cries for the entire length of the trip, which is exactly 2.3 miles from home to vet.

MinKit is 3-1/2. When it comes time for him to go to the vet, he flops down on the floor as I slip a cat harness over his head, snap it around his tummy, and attach the leash to the harness. While I'm driving, he sits calmly on my wife's lap in the car's backseat, with an occasional peek out the (closed) side window where he places his front paws on the door and stands on his hind legs while she holds him securely around his middle. He seems utterly fascinated by the passing scenery and never utters a peep.

  4. Yeah, both of my cats do the same thing. It takes quite an effort and trickery to get either one of them into the carrier. Luckily, we have a very big carrier so they can't spread themselves out across the door in an effort to avoid getting stuffed inside. We learned that the hard way when we used to have smaller carriers.

  6. My cat is freak or something ;) - she loves her carrier and there is no problems with puting her into :)

  7. I have a duffle carrier that zips on one end and zips and latches on the top. I set it on its end and put my kitties in feet/tail first, then zip it up before they jump back out. Strangely, when at home I can leave the carrier out and they'll sleep in it. Silly kitties.

My oldest runs to the bathroom anytime I go and jumps on the tub hoping I'll run some water so she can drink. However, if I shut the door with the water running while she's in there, she automatically thinks it's bath time and starts crying.

  8. One of my cats (I have 12) requires two people and trickery to get into a carrier. I think a tranquillizing blow dart might be easier.

    *sigh*

  9. My cats (I have 10) follow me in the bathroom then jump up on and into the tub and prance around. I am never allowed any piece while I "take care of business". But if I turn on the shower or tub they run as if the world is on fire. Yes...sillie kitties.

  12. My kittens act just like that. Then I get to the vets and tell them how they should be careful because the kitty is SO freaky.. they take kitty out and kitty purrs and acts sweet. It's irritating.

  13. haha! that's true jenna. mine are the same way and I end up looking crazy.

  14. And that's only step one in getting there!

  19. I had to take my oldest cat to the vet a couple of weeks ago and this is pretty much what happened. After 20 minutes of letting her over power my husband and I, I called the vet and got a sedative ordered. Even an hour after I gave her the medication she still had the strength of 3 men. It wasn't until we got to the vet office did she go to sleep. Needless to say she is fine and I'm hoping I won't have to put her through that ever again.

  20. Hi, I came over from I Have Cat's blog - and it is funny you posted this one on Friday - because this is how my Friday morning started (our two youngest went to get their spay/neuters - they were not excited about it).

  21. I'm with terracotta.pl - my cat has a freakish love for his carrier. All I have to do is open the door and he wanders right in! If only that also applied to taking baths. :)

  22. Every time I move I go through this. The last time, when the movers arrived I was bleeding up and down both arms. Can you make a t-shirt of the top right panel? I will buy 2!

  23. Yosemite Sam is a 26 pound Maine Coon red tabby. I say, "Sam, time to go to the vet." I swear he smiles. Walks into the carrier. I open zee door. He strollllls out. Full of himself. Freaks the vet and friends out with his GINORMOUSNESS, hangs loose, then when it's time to go, I say, "Time to go home." He struts back in. He also stares at himself in the mirror. A LOT. I wonder if he's a human in a big cat body.

  26. You forgot the punch line of that one. Once you've got them in the box and to the vet, they won't come back out!

  28. I feel so lucky, My cat LOVES her kennel and the vet... she find it's interesting and doesn't care at all if she's given a needle XD but my last one was like that, BIG TIME

  29. I had to buy a soft-sided, top-loading, duffle-style kennel for my one cat, because I was afraid I'd snap her legs trying to get her into the front-loader! She was a stray who was taken in by a shelter, and rehomed numerous times during her 2 year stay with them - so I don't blame her for hating kennels. I think she sees them as a sign she's being rehomed again. I tried burrito-wrapping her to get her into the front-loading kennel, and she'd always manage to get a leg out somewhere. Plus, she screams like a banshee whenever she's in the vicinity of a kennel, even the soft-sided one!

  30. My boys are usually easy to handle. They don't like the kennel, but they don't hate it. My girl, however, is nearly impossible. We can't get her in, and when we do, she won't come out, and then we usually have to clean the kennel 'cause she pees in it, and them she hates us for about a week or longer after the 'ordeal.' As for baths, We burrito wrap them in a towel, and then use warm water and gently pour it over them. They don't like baths, so they keep themselves clean, but when we do have to give them baths, they look like drowned rats. My kitten usually comes and curls up on my chest then, and gets me all wet. Silly kitteh.

  31. yes applies to bath..I get new war wounds every six weeks o_O

  32. *rofl* Had to laugh out loud! This is hilarious!

  33. If I want my eyes intact, I have to wrap my kitty in a towel. And then put the kitty-bundle quickly inside.

  34. You know how ALL cats love paper bags? Just let your cat walk into a paper bag and then lift the paper bag into the carrier bag. Works every time.

    ReplyDelete
  35. yeah this is the reason i have to use the cat boxes that closes on top with my cats.

  36. Best way I have found is to turn the kennel to where the opening is vertical and then face-first my cats in while holding their limbs tightly against their bodies. Once guided in, quickly get your hands out of there and before the cat has a chance to turn around, lock the cage and then gently lower the kennel to it's usual position. My cats still squirm and mew bloody murder, but it works about 80% of the time. :)

  38. Omg... my baby is the same way! i bring her to my parents' every once in awhile because they always ask if they can borrow her for a couple days to a couple weeks -- and without fail she will do this to the point where I end up picking her up, carrying her to the car like a human baby and going there to end up getting questioned by my parents why she isn't in a carrier. My roomies (also animal lovers) offered to let me borrow a bigger carrier once to have both my girls be transported at the same time and it definitely works.... so after my baby's last trip to my parents I finally bought a bigger carrier (double her size). LOL.

  39. My family's method of putting the cat into the box for travel seems to be gravity and prayer.

  40. I got 2 cats and the other practically runs into the carrier when I take it out. The other one needs some more special tactics. I have to grab her by the neck and put her butt first into the carrier.

  41. I would have to be sneaky when putting my cat in her carrier. I could NEVER walk up to her with carrier in hand or else she would run under the bed or under the table. I would have to grab her BEFORE and then put her in the carrier. At first she would meow a bit and then when she realized that she was going to be in their for awhile she would calm down=^..^=
