Which one are you?

How many cats does it take before you're labeled as crazy?

I had 8 at once and I only have two now. So I'm not there yet.

  1. We (my husband and I) have 3 cats and a 4th will be moving in in about 2 weeks. There are some who call us crazy. But that's fine with us, because we totally agree with them.^^

  2. We have five. All Maine Coons. All indoor cats, too. My wife's Mother's husband for the past four years thinks we have four. At four we were deemed nuts. Five would send him off the deep end. Us? when you have this many -- and a Bernese Mountain Dog, what's one more?

  3. koelschgirl > i was already deemed crazy even when i didn't have cats. just ask my relatives. hahaha!

omemeeozzie > exactly. what's one more?! i have 2 cats and an 85 lb half rottie that thinks it's a cat. i want a smoosh faced kitty. oh and i love maine coons. i saw one for adoption. agh!

  4. I can't have cats because I have allergies. But I love them so. I can't even be a "cat lady", or "cat gent" to be exact.

  6. Husband and I have six cats. I don't THINK we're crazy cat people, but I feel better about your having had eight. I think like we're more in line with the first panel than the second. I hope?

  7. Yeah, 8 was a challenge. But it makes it easier when your challenge is cute and fuzzy.

  8. I always say, if you have more than 3 of something, it's a collection. That's why I only have 2 kitties. :)

  9. @OmemeeOzzie: Hey, ours are all Maine Coons, too. :) I don't know what it is with Coons, but I think the are addictive. Some time ago I said I never want to have purebreds. But then I fell in love with a little black Maine Coon kitten. And she had a half sister looking for a new home. That was 2007. ^^

@yasmine: Same here. ;) Some of my relatives (and some friends) are calling me a witch and a geek girl. ^^ Need I say more?

  10. heremeow: yes. i only don't have a "collection" of kitties at the moment. as i only have two...eventually though...

  11. haha! sadly i think im the latter, even with only one cat...mmm cake!

  12. We have one now, but I want so many more!!! -=D

  13. @yasmine: No, I was called a witch long before I had cats. Most people calling me that don't mean it in a bad way. It's their way of "classifying my crazyness".

(I hope my English doesn't sound too strange, I am not a native speaker)

  14. when it comes to cats...i say, the more, the merrier ;)

but i only have 2. my husband is pretty allergic to them and doesn't much care for them either. if it weren't for him, i'd probably have a few more. somewhere around 6.

  15. I only have two and have been using major restraint from getting more. I want to wait to live in a bigger place so it's more fun and more room for litter boxes, etc. I have always wanted a Maine Coon, I think we want to get one next. I love MASSIVE kitties! My cat Turtles is a pretty huge guy.
I too am also known for being a crazy cat lady with fam & friends, what with my big book collection, blog and anything kitty i can get my hands on hehe...even the cheezy stuff. Don't have one of those hideous big sweaters yet though...lol.

  16. @Koelschgirl oh your english is perfectly fine! i'm not a native speaker either :)

@starification, Kitty Stampede: they're like corn nuts. you just have to have more! i want a maine coon, a scottish fold, a smoosh face, and any regular kitty that doesn't run away from me if i try to cuddle with it.

i'm not the only cat lady in the family fortunately. plus i have a large dog too--but he thinks he's a cat. haha! it's sad and funny.

  17. I have 2, a cream point Himalayan and a black domestic longhair. My boyfriend is allergic, but he still helps me give them baths ^_^

I love your comics and so do my friends! Keep them coming!

  18. 42 cats.
    Yes, 42.
All at one time, several generations of it. We owned a small farm of sorts, and took in strays all the time. Every cat had it's own name, and we could identify each and every one of them. :D

I was about 12 at the time, and it was probably the best childhood I could have had. They were all beautiful cats, a lot of rare cats (Coon cat, Golden Siamese, etcetera) and all but two or three of them were human-friendly. I remember at any one time you could lay in our yard for a few minutes, and eventually be covered over in cats. The purring was so loud!

It was killer expensive, though - it costs about the same to feed 7 horses straight feed. We used to feed them in specially made troths, and build cat-houses and climbing posts into our trees. We never sold any, though. We always took our time to find good, loving homes for them, and tried to keep all their vet visits up. But it was again, really really expensive.

I can see why most crazy cat people live in shacks.

Anywho, just stumbling through! I absolutely love the blog, and will visit again! If you have any questions about the kitties, just shoot me an e-mail, and mention this blog! :D

  19. 42?!

were they strays or were they adopted?

    i think i'd stop at 21 cats.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I have 2 cats who are both loveable in their own ways. How do you stop the younger one fighting the oldest one? the young one is an 18mth old tabby and the other a 6 yr old tortie.

  21. I have 3 and my husband has 1. I would like more but he says no. He also says he will die before I do. So when that happens, I will get enough cats to become a crazy cat lady and then I'll come back here and tell you how many that is.

  22. @anonymous when i used to have cats that fought, i spritzed them with water with an atomizer. this helped minimize the squabbles. it wasn't too much water--more like a mist.

@melabonbon yes, give me an update!

  26. It's more a matter of toxoplasmosis than numbers

  27. We've got 7, the oldest 3 are about 10, the youngest are 3-4. When we met, I had 2, she had 1, and not only have the 2 I had gone over the rainbow bridge, so has the one I got after the first one died. Lost 2 to cancer, one to old age (he was 18). They're loads of fun, though, each of them with his/her own personality.

  28. I don't think it's the number of cats that makes someone a "crazy cat lady." I think it's the reason this why this person is hoarding animals. And why is this phenomenon aimed only at women? Or more specifically, women' with cats. And why are women these days so afraid to admit they have more than two cats? What about women and men who have five dogs? Or whole herds of dogs. It's funny that dog people think we're crazy for owning cats, yet they french kiss their dogs daily and don't mind picking up their pets poop by hand (we at least have a miniature plastic shovel), yet we're the crazy ones.

The most cats I've ever had was 13, two of my cats (they were sisters and bffs) got preggo and had their litters the exact same day (in my closet on my clothes...placenta and blood everywhere) both had 5 kittens each, and I had a 14 year old male cat who hated everyone and every thing. My house was very interesting for two months. And then we were back down to 3 after that.

  29. Cat math: I had one. His roommate had one. He had to move out, because his roommate was selling the house. I took in the roommate's cat that was going to be abandoned. Subtotal: Me, two cats, him none. He found a place to live, took in one stray, then another. I took in one stray with only three feet, and another I thought was pregnant (she was just chubby). New subtotal: I had four, he had two. We moved in together. Subtotal: six. Then, my first cat died at 17 years old. Subtotal: five. We just got a kitten that a friend couldn't keep. Grand total: Six cats, one crazy cat woman, and one crazy cat man. We are currently at maximum capacity.

  30. Only two. For now. I would love to add a third, but it would be complicated since my two are girls, and are already very bonded to each other. I'm currently trying to add a small dog to the family, not having much luck. Once said dog is in, maybe we'll look at a third cat. And then I'll be the crazy cat lady for sure. (Already am, to most of my friends who are pet-less, or single-cat owners. Weirdos!).

  31. I think the toxoplasmosis comment was right on. Your sanity quotient is inversely proportional to your poop (and pee) tolerance.

My ex and I had seven cats at one point. I currently only have one, but have been considering adopting another.

I just discovered this blog and I love it! I'll be checking in regularly!

  32. My husband jokes around that he could never leave me or I would turn into the crazy cat lady, My response... TOO LATE, we have 5 cats right now and three dogs, I think that its a little late to not be considered crazy... I love your comics, they are so amusing.

  33. 1. And one 75lb dog. They play well together. I go to the store and ask myself. WWKL? (What Would Kitteh Like?). He's a rescue adoption and the best cat ever. He fetches, he plops himself on my face (oomph like) while I try to read in bed. He'll sleep on the other side of the bed like he's the husband. (nononono) He meows a lot. He's a big black cat and not a year old yet. His name is Foo. I love him. (and sometimes he's an a-hole - I still love him).

I thought about also getting the scariest cat at the shelter as well (it's "no kill", so he's still there) but I have to remind myself about responsibility and vet costs... otherwise I WOULD HAVE LOTS OF KITTEHS. And Elmer. The scariest cat EVAR. God, I want that cat.

  34. How many cats qualifies people as Crazy Cat People?
We have twelve in the temple.
Each of them has their own special personality and all are different. They were actually co-stars in a movie last year.
They are all well taken care of as we work with LSU Veterinary School, Cat Haven and Spay Baton Rouge. Not saying caring for them is not alot of work.
They seem fully aware that they are sacred animals.
They eat 16 pounds of dry food a week plus eight large size cans of cat food. The strays outside get four pounds a week. (alms for the poor)
We use 40 pounds of scoopable cat litter each week in six litter boxes that need to be scooped every day. We also have two air purifiers although we need a couple more. (lots of cats equals lots of fur in the air.)
I don't think we'd qualify as "crazy" because we are fully prepared and equipped to take care of them.
Even though it is a labor of love doesn't mean it isn't alot of work. Fortunately I am a younger retired person.

  35. My grandmother has ten cats...I think. I loose count because she has so many. She certainly is a crazy cat lady because she finds cats and takes them in. All of those cats live inside, too. They aren't inside-outside, so her house smells a bit like cat pee and cat food. So when I saw this, I thought of her. :D
