Are you at that age when people to your left and right are having babies or planning on having them and everyone is wondering when you're going to have babies too? And you're like, "Uhhhhhh, I have cats. I'm going to adopt another one this Saturday..."

  1. and cats don't buy a house. Neither a dog, obviously.

  2. I'm right there! I'm 31 and am not thinking about having a baby for a while ... even though I'm getting married this year.

    Hug!

    Miki.

  3. so absolutely true! Is there a possibility to get a big print of this one? I would buy it!

  4. Amusingly enough, I've used babies as a way to get myself a new kitten.

Me: Honey, I want a new wee fuzzy lil kitten!

Husband: Mmm.. no. We already have two.

Me: Honey, I *really* wanna get a sweet little kitten.

    Husband: No.

Me: Honey, I'm thinking that maybe we should have a baby. Babies are so cute. I like babies.

Husband: Hey, how about we go get a kitten?!

  8. I'm in my mid 20s and most of my friends from high school are either pregnant or already have kids. I'm engaged and we plan on getting married early next year. People have already been bugging us about having children, particularly my in-laws who want grandkids badly. My fiance is still finishing his Masters and we don't want to have children until we're both ready and financially stable. I really want to get out of this town because everyone is driving us crazy. I just want to focus on my career right now.

As for now, we're happy just having Tabby (our cat) and a few fish. I feel like having babies can wait.

    Sorry for the long rant.

  9. YES! Everyone I know is takling about kids/having kids. I'm talking about cats/getting more cats. Luckily the boyfriend is on the same page.

  10. My husband and I are childfree. Woohoo!
I feel the same way that you do.
My cats are my babies. There's simply no need for kids. Eh, plus they're too much work and responsibility.

Maybe I'm just crazy but I think a cat has more cuteness in it's paw than every baby I've ever seen combined. Humans...just don't do it for me.
    Cats are way more adorable!

  11. My cat can't stop eating junk either, but she doesn't complaint about it,,, she loves it!, she loves honey and cheetos.

    hi!

  12. Oh for the love of all things good PLEASE, PLEASE make more. I love them! My cat's do too :) and I am totally in that point in my life where everyone want's to know when my husband and I are going to have kids! (We can't have another cat in the house so we rescued a outside puppy last week!)

  13. BRILLIANT! This is totally ME!!! bahahah...you nailed it sweets. and your comics are my favorite EVER. I'm contemplating sharing this on facebook but will probably make some enemies..hahaha...oh well, good thing i'm independent just like my kitties. sigh...they are such a quiet adorable relief to come home to.

  14. well i'm glad i'm not alone ;)

  15. urgh the whole baby thing makes me *shudder* having cats is much better :D

  16. I have a 12 year old son- and I'm not making any more babies. But my husband will occasionally sit me down and talk about having another baby. Every time he has one of these little talks, I bring him home a kitten. Until recently, we had 5 cats (one passed away last month). I told him if he wants something cute and that he can cuddle that will love him completely, a kitten will do. And we don't have to send the kittens to college. He no longer talks about babies- so I win. :D

  17. This is soooo true!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Haha! This one is great. I just posted a link to it on my facebook. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yep. Right there. I turned 30 last month, and with the big 3 at the front, the baby-madness seems everywhere. 2 of my friends had one last week. 2!!!

And we have a cat. And no plans for a baby. What. So. Ever. Another cat, on the other hand. Definitely Maybe! :oD

    *hearts*

  20. I found this blog through the ICHCB site (the "cat lady" comic) and I was really loving this whole series of cartoons and all ready to hit that RSS feed link...

Till I found the requisite "whiny fat woman who can't stop eating" stereotype.

Hey, if you ever revisit this strip, make sure you redraw the fat woman as a) Asian and b) eating diced cat over rice, using chopsticks. That would make it EXTRA faily. And for that mental image, you're welcome.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It was funny up until the third panel. Stereotypes aren't funny. Yes, someone will gain weight if they eat a lot, but not all overweight people are whiny, just like not all thin people are whiny. Why does the woman have to be fat? Why can't she be average? I found it offensive.
Please take this into consideration if you do a comic like this again.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I thought the comic was fantastic! The only person upset about the fat cartoon woman eating was only upset about that panel. Didn't comment that technically you can stereotype the entire comic, not just the third panel. Didn't comment about the girl with fake boobies is a skinny blonde did they? They found the other panels to be funny but just not when it applied to themselves apparently. Looks like you nailed the "whiney fat girl" perfect. Bravo, truly.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You're great! =^_^= I just love all the girls' expressions. I often think along the same line and really laughed a lot when reading your cartoons!

    ReplyDelete
  24. This comic is perf! Absolutely every panel is correct. The saturation of procreation of this culture is making me batty! I care nothing about having kids (or even being around them, but that can't be helped). I've made it abundantly clear to my family and friends not to expect kids from me.

I am overweight and I did not find the "whiny" panel offensive. I guess it pisses off people who can't admit this is true about them.

I also love the first panel. I so despise vapid reality TV (ok, ALL reality TV) and yet the people I'm surrounded by eat that crap up. Another lesson in panel 1: not every second needs to be filled with talking. Silence is golden.

    ReplyDelete
  25. You are SOOO right. That's why I like cats better than a lot of humans! And coincidence, coincidence, I'm an artist, too! :D Okay, that really Is just a coincidence...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Aww! I feel your pain! I'm 23, have been married for 2 years and proud mother of our 3 kittehs, which at the moment keep me plenty busy!!! Although everyone keeps asking us about babies, everything will fall into place when we're ready :D
Just gotta tune everyone out :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. hee hee the one with the pregnats women- so true!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have made the cat > babies choice, and at this very moment I have a fuzzy sleepy kitty relaxing in my lap...she doesn't scream and cry or pee and poop anywhere inappropriate and she is plenty cute and amusing. I think she looks like me but maybe I'm a little catbatty...

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm pro cat. Anti Breeder. Cats are cheaper and they are fuzzy. They also usually come potty trained.

I don't see the allure in procreation. Neither does my hubby.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think my favorite part is when I tell people I'd rather have cats than a baby they look at me like I'm mentally challenged.

Right now we are in an apartment that doesn't allow cats and it's breaking my heart. My boy and I are both crazy cat people. :op

    ReplyDelete
  31. im pregnant now but i still cannot live without my cats :( i miss them. all 10 of them.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I dunno about the second one....my cats are always judging me for not doing what they want

    ReplyDelete
  33. My parents-in-law asked me when I was going to have a baby. I told them that my cat was my baby. They were not impressed. I don't care.

    ReplyDelete
  34. That's going to be me. No kids, but lots of cats. XD

    ReplyDelete
  35. My biological clock ticks for kittens (and all sorts of four legged furries - two legs only if they have feathers!), always did, I don't remember one day in my whole life I even considered having kids. When people ask (well, demand you have kids too, just because they do) I used to give them the old "I can't have kids, my cats are allergic" line, but now that I'm over 40 I can just say that the "factory has closed" and they just shut up!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yup. That's me :D I love your work!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yes. I'm this age. Everybody keeps asking me when I'm planning on my first baby, but I'm just planning on my second cat. And third cat. And no babies. Ever.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh yea, feel you there. Even my new husband is asking when we are having babies.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wow, I look a lot like this girl- and I get that same expression whenever I'm told I should have a baby or two. I've never really felt the inclination, and I'm pretty honest about that. Luckily, my husband feels the same way and is always saying our cats are our children. They must be, with all the baby-talk and endless belly kisses!

    ReplyDelete
  40. most of the ones I have read have been spot on, and I totally agree with (especially the adoption lady asking you to send photos (you did right?) But this is the one I have to comment on..

I am so right there with you

    ReplyDelete
  41. both of my best friends are cat ladies, though perhaps not as much so as me. i found myself the ultimate balance there! we love each others' cats almost as much as we love our own. for me, it's like having nine nieces and nephews. also, we're in our early twenties, so we have yet to reach that ultimate crazy cat-lady peak! we're gonna reach it together :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. OMG, I can totally relate to this! LOL. I love all your entries. this is my new fav site!! YAY CATS!

    ReplyDelete
  43. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!
    Thank you!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. jajajajajajaja ups!!! I am passing for the same "situation" actually. But instead of the pression, I prefer cats than babyes!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yeah!! wonderful! ,i can relate to this & i feel the same way, i feel better knowing other women are not maternal & do not want babies & would rather have fuzzy kitty babies. I hate when some women hint at me about having babies, as being 30-ish o_0...not all women think the same way :)

Oh also...i really love your comics!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. You are sooo right!
Everybody talks about their children and expect you to listen to their every word, but when I want to talk about mine nobody thinks it's important! Why?
One of my little girls has been very sick recently. Now she's fine and I'm super happy. But when she was on treatment I was worried and needed to talk about it but nobody understood or even cared! That was awfully sad!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm glad your little girl is feeling better Ana!

I'm not sure why, really. But it's definitely nice when you find someone who is willing to listen :)

  49. even though im, like, 13 years old... my little sister totally ruined babies for me. she is probably the most annoying thing in existence and i dont want to have to deal with that when im older... IM FINE WITH CATS! i seriously need more cats though... i only have one :'( (^o.o^)~
i hope that kinda looks like a cat... :)

  50. Ack, I'm seventeen and am already hearing girls at school talking about how they can't wait until they're older so they can have kids. Why?! What do they have against pets? o:
This is brilliant. Precisely why I'm a cat person!

  51. Hi Yasmine! I'm very new to Cat vs Human (where have I been??!) so I'm starting at the beginning and slowly reading through all your posts. I just ordered your book and a shirt and am now a HUGE fan! I have my own blog too, would love to feature you some time!
    Check it out: www.thepurrdiaries.blogspot.com

P.S. I LOVE THIS COMIC - it's so me vs my friends hahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  52. oh. i was really liking this comic, and enjoying reblogging it on tumblr, too, until i found out that apparently you hate fat people, especially fat people with eating disorders or depression or both. i don't really want to read a comic by a person who hates me, even if i connect so well with all their other comics about cats.

i know this is an old comic, but you should just stick to cats.

    1. LOLZ You are funny! Dude, fat people all have different lives and different attitudes. My guy friend dated 2 notable fat chicks over the course of 2 years. The first one was whiny and annoying, but the second one was outgoing and loved life (got hit on by guys all the time). lolz Stop being so sensitive, your just proving the stereotype to be true! XD

Also, love this comic! Society started having the 'baby-fits' at me when I reached 23!! Gahh! 'Congrats for not getting pregnate as a teen; but now you should join us!!' lolz

  53. I love The Real Housewives, cats and your blog. The truth hurts. lol!

  54. I'm basically twelve with no cats :( despite my constant begging for a kitty. But yeah my friends are all talking about having at least one kid and their like what about you and im like, no im gonna have 10 cats want one

    ReplyDelete
  55. I have 3 cat's not exactly crazy cat lady yet but I love cat's. My boyfriend is more of a dog person but we both disagree with most of you guys on the issue of babies. I love kids and I feel mothering as a calling. but I also really love cat's if I had it my way we would probably have a lot more.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Sooo... the only panel on here that people are whining about is the one with the overweight whiny woman. Irony much? If it triggers you, it might be time to take an honest look at yourself. And I speak as a temporarily overweight, just coming out of a depression woman who was definitely making a habit out of whining too much in the last year.

The comic is brilliant! Keep speaking your truth!

    ReplyDelete
  57. After seeing this comic, I want you to be my new BFF so I will have at least ONE who's not getting pregnant and when I say I want another kitty they won't say but you've already got 4.... =)

    ReplyDelete
  58. I do not want children. Ever. That's what my cats are for. :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. And moreover, to the boys, cats don't yell "MAKE ME A SANDWICH!" like girlfriends do when hungry.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I don't think it's the fact that she's whining and overweight and eating, but the implication that a person of size will never ever find love. That is the trigger.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I know I'm a little late in commenting, but this. This exactly is the issue. At least, for me it is.

I don't care that the girl depicted is fat, even though I'm kind of heavy. I don't care that she's whining and eating and whining about eating, even though I can get complainy and probably enjoy the snackity-snacks more than I should.

I *do* care about the implication that a person who's not a catalog-pretty, perky little twig is somehow less of a person and that they are somehow less capable of/less deserving of being loved as a result.

As a whole I enjoy Cat vs. Human thoroughly, but that--even if Yasmine didn't mean to imply it (I would hope to think she did not)--that right there scraped a little too close to the bone.

  61. Hhahaha so funny. I prefer cats over babies.

  62. Reminds me of a quote I saw once. "If I wanted to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, I would put shoes on the cats."

    ReplyDelete
  63. I am so at that point in my life, everyone is 'babies, babies, babies'
Let people make their own decisions!
( and I might be biased but cats are way cuter!)

  64. I love your comic! It describes my life almost exactly. haha
